Yes ! It is another blog but one we hope will be a bit different and deliver value to our readers. So how do we aim to be a bit different ?
1. Written by a community of experienced contributors with lots to share.
As you can see from the profile of the contributors, each one them has years of experience in exploring, designing and implementing learning and performance support solutions. They are senior L&D (Learning and Development) professionals and thought leaders who ply their craft for some the leading organisations in Australia and New Zealand.
For example:
- Bob Spence was the Learning Leader at LearnX in 2009 and was instrumental at implementing an award winning learning platform at St.George Bank.
- Ryan Tracey has won the best Learning Blog award this year and manages e-Learning at a financial services company.
- Rob Wilkins heads a L&D function and is regularly invited to speak at conferences.
- Jeevan Joshi has over 15 years experience implementing enterprise learning and HR projects. He is a regular at speaker at learning conferences.
We are excited to welcome other contributors who will be joining the Learning Cafe blog in the coming months.
2. A practitioners blog grounded in evidence but not constrained by it.
Learning Cafe contributors go through the daily grind of making learning effective and contribute to business results. Some of the contributors work in the L&D function while others assist in building L&D capability and solutions. It is very much a practitioners blog which is grounded on research and evidence but not entirely dependant on it, as the contributors bring their own experience, insights and opinion to the blog.
3. Keeping out blatant sales messages.
Blogs give writers a platform to express their views. However some blogs have underlying sales messages for products and services. We have nothing against sales and marketing messages (the economy runs on that basis), but we felt a need to create a space free of bias for sales messages. While some products and services may be obliquely mentioned as the contributors use them as tools, the blog will try and keep any sales messages out.
4. Focus on “new learning” and its link for performance support.
Learning Cafe has a definite bias for the the newer delivery approach and methods which includes e-Learning, mobile learning, social learning, Web 2.0 learning, simulations and gamification etc. The bias also extends to viewing these new approached through the lens of performance support i.e how learning can be chunked and delivered at the point and time of need.
5. Building L&D capability to meet new challenges
The contributors recognise that the L&D community need to upgrade their capability to fully understand and exploit emerging L&D approaches. They also face the challenge of walking the tight rope of developing faster& cheaper – robust & effective learning. We hope this blog and its content will help readers build this capability.
So there you are. Yes another blog but one which will aim to maintain a certain level of relevance and quality of content that will resonates with the learning and development community.
